Details Make All The Difference

  • -       Marin Quality Counts (Professional Development): We are a part of Marin Quality Counts, a professional learning community hosted by the Marin County Office of Education.  Through this, we have access to additional professional development, and we have preschool consultants and other experts come to our school and perform various evaluations and assessments.  It’s just one way our team and our school shows a commitment to offering a very high-quality program.
  • -       Botanical Cleaning Product: Our primary cleaning/disinfectant is a botanical Thyme based “green” product.  No need to breathe toxic bleach fumes that can be corrosive to developing lungs. The product is, “Benefect Decon-30”.
  • -       Non-Toxic: Almost all of our furniture is all-natural, non-toxic wood. Not only does it look good, it helps keep our children and teachers safer.
  • -       Natural Furniture & Display Trays / Baskets: Our quality, natural furniture and quality supplies and equipment (not much plastic here!) help to keep the room feeling beautiful, cohesive, and calm.
  • -       Sound Panels: Sound panels are mounted in every classroom (even the bathroom!) to help reduce sound vibrations and keep the noise level feeling more manageable for everyone.
  • -       Electives: We have regularly scheduled electives and other enrichment activities designed to enhance our students’ education.
  • -       Intentionally Designed Space: Both our indoor and outdoor classroom spaces are designed with great intention.  There are spaces for children who want to use their muscles, space for children who prefer to hang out quietly, etc.
  • -       Teacher Access to Supplies and Materials: Our teachers have access to all the supplies one could need in order to provide high quality for our students.  You’ll never see a sign asking for crayons & paper around here (although we may ask for paper towel rolls!)
  • -       Sensory Garden: Providing our students with a beautiful environment is important to us.  From our 10 fruit trees to climbing vines to the variety of edible herbs we have planted, our natural environment is designed to encourage sensory discoveries for our students.
  • -       Organized, Accessible Supplies: Just take a look at our “art drawers” and you’ll immediately understand one of the many ways we help our students experience and learn just how capable they are.  Furthermore, the full-access to so many art supplies & tools helps to provide additional opportunities for student creativity.
  • If, for example, a child is having difficulty opening their string cheese container they learn that they can grab a pair of kid scissors to snip off the top.  The first several times it might take as many as 20-snips but, as we know, “practice makes better”.  The look of accomplishment on a child’s face is priceless!
  • -       Hundreds & Hundreds of Quality Books: Each classroom has two very large bookshelves filled with a variety of interesting and engaging books.  Like so many other aspects of our preschool, we are intentional in our book selection.  We have Caldecott Award winning picture books, books promoting numeracy (e.g. counting), science discovery books, books about sharing & being a friend, books showing children who look like your child and family (and children who don’t!), etc.

Perhaps most impressive is that this entire collection of books is replaced every month with a huge set of new books.  This means that, throughout the course of the schoolyear our students are exposed to literally hundreds and hundreds of quality books.
