Conflict Resolution

Learning to manage conflict and make good choices are important learning aspects that are supposed to occur regularly with young children.  All children are working to better understand how to resolve conflicts appropriately on their own and then ask for help when they need it. As we guide children toward their independence, we keep in mind that children need to learn to repair their broken relationships on their own, without forcing them to be insincere.

  • We help children verbalize their feelings and desires and to listen to one another.
  • We give children the opportunity to suggest their own solutions to the conflict.
  • We assist children in finding an appropriate solution if needed. (“How can we make it better”?)
  • We help children to recognize and take responsibility for their own behavior.
